When the scent has gone, the wax is still sitting in the dish. Here’s how to clear it out and get ready for your next scent, without the mess.
First: switch off and wait
Blow out the tealight or switch off the warmer, and give it a few minutes. Melted wax is hot, so don’t touch it or move the burner straight away.
The cotton pad way (wax still soft)
Once the wax has cooled a little but is still soft, lay two or three cotton pads (or folded kitchen roll) in the dish. They soak up the wax. Lift them out, then give the dish a wipe.
The pop-out way (wax set hard)
Let the wax set completely. Press the edge with your thumb and it’ll often pop out in one piece. If it’s stubborn and your dish lifts off, put the completely cold dish in the freezer for 10 minutes. The wax shrinks and lifts right out.
Things not to do
- Don’t pour wax down the sink. It sets in the pipes. Pop it in the bin.
- Never add water to hot wax.
- Don’t put a warm dish in the freezer or cold water. Sudden temperature changes can crack it.
- Don’t scrape with anything sharp. It scratches the dish.
That’s it: fresh dish, fresh cube, fresh scent. Need a new one? Build a pick & mix box.
